The House

Truly beautiful ~ The place to stay ~ Great house ~ Pure luxury ~ Fabulous location ~ Everything we hoped for

With 3 large bedrooms and lots of space, àilean sleeps up to 6 people in splendid comfort.

On the ground floor, the main living area is open-plan and there is a king-size bedroom and large bathroom with a double-ended bath, separate shower, and infra-red sauna. Upstairs there are large king-size and twin bedrooms both with en-suite shower rooms as well as a quiet sitting area should you want some tranquility or a place to read.

To the front of the house, big windows frame panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, North Harris hills, island of Taransay, and Chaipaval (Ceapabhal) with its distinctive stripe of feldspar rock. Crofting lands behind the house lead to the gentler hills of South Harris peppered with small lochs and the remains of Duns and shielings. Our local beach is just a few hundred yards in front of the house and there are many other beautiful beaches to walk or drive to including the world-class Scarista and Luskentyre. Harris golf course is less than a 5-minute drive away and superb fishing is available nearby. We really are spoiled.

A message from Alison and Scott…

àilean has several possible meanings. We called the house after one pronounced with a soft “ahhh” followed by “lin” which can mean green plain or meadow as the the plot had been the crofter’s potato patch at one time so was flat and green. Designing and building our home in Harris was a big and exciting challenge. How to ensure all the comforts you would expect in a modern house and a few interesting features? We are proud to share our gem in the Hebrides with you and hope you will fall in love with the island as we have.
